School Lunch
Do any of you remember cheese zombies for school lunch? Maybe you weren't lucky enough to get them....how sad... how about those mashed potatoes and turkey gravy? Fresh baked dinner rolls, light and fluffy with real butter! Holy crap-a-roni&cheese those were good! Rich, hearty spaghetti and cheesy lasagna where the cheese separates from the rest and slides to the side of the tray compartment to be eaten last for one last bite or two of deliciousness! lets not forget the wiener wraps...oh man! loved 'em so much even though the dog was a scary shade of gray/green! Our cook Betty knew what she was doin' let me tell ya....not only did she cook great food, but she created in me a love for real food! I'm not a fan of processed food...once in a while I get a big hankerin' for kraft mac-n-cheese or spaghetti'O's that I eat cold from the can....i know, i know....but the value of "good food" is high in my book and I owe it all to school lunch!!! Sounds kinda funny huh? But if you went to Ilwaco HS you know what i'm talkin' 'bout! Times have changed...and yes, there are still some things good put on the yellow trays...but seriously...we need to go back to the days when it was REAL FOOD!!!!! Betty & the other ladies...what a cooks:) I feel blessed to have been fed good food....they made it all with fresh ingredients...it's not like that these days....now, YOU and I can make a difference and help get things changed to Betty's way or even better.... across the country....Go to www.jamieoliver.com and join his food revolution campaign today....bring back the cheese zombie!!!

Jamie Oliver isn't trying to bring back the cheese zombie....that's me..just to clarify....
ReplyDeleteI totally remember all of those foods. Betty and Grandma Rhoda made the best cinnamon rolls too!!!
ReplyDeleteI have 'signed' the petition at jamie oliver's website. Maybe we can make different food memories for our kids.
Yellow Trays? That would be nice, our school district goes through hundreds of styrofoam trays for each breakfast and lunch served. I am not a total tree hugger, but it makes still me cringe when I think about all of that in a landfill. The food I miss is the "real" cinnamon rolls, not the prefab ones we get now. Remember those? They had a separate line for kids who just wanted to buy those.
ReplyDeleteoh man! how can i forget! they put Cinnabon to shame!!!!
